British Aerospace (Filton) Retired Employees
Association (BAFREA )
Known to its members as “The Club”, we were founded
in 1961 and formed so that retired employees can
maintain social contact; providing opportunities
to meet for social, educational, recreational and
reunion events. The Company has changed its name
over the years from The Bristol Aeroplane Company to
British Aircraft Corporation through to British
Aerospace, Airbus and BAE Systems. There was once
a splinter group known as “1220 Lab” which went
off into space.
Whichever one you retired from on the Filton
site, entitles you to join us. We meet every alternate
Tuesday from 2 till 4 pm at the B.A.W.A. on Southmead
Road. We have a committee that organizes various
programs for the afternoon including film shows,
talks and musical entertainment. We also have a
raffle and a couple of games of Bingo. We like members
to take part in these activities as it’s the only
way to raise funds as we are completely self supporting.
During the summer we have coach trips,
an Easter lunch and a lunch at the A.G.M. in October,
then at Christmas we have a dinner which is always
well supported. All these activities are subsidized
out of club funds. In the winter months we play
skittles on Thursday afternoons, nothing serious,
just a fun game. In December we try to organize
a Turkey & Tinsel trip for 4 or 5 days. This
of course is not subsidized.
Well there is a bit about us; if you are interested
give us a call or come along and have a look at
us. You’ll be made welcome. Membership is £5 per
annum,
but you can have a trial visit for 20p.
Our address for contact is given on our printed
newsletter, alternatively you can e-mail us at:
