 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

In my last report I said not a lot was happening on the pension’s front with the Company.  Not a lot has happened since and that just about sums up the situation over the last years. When you think about it, that is what you would expect with their small number of part time staff.  My concern over dropping the word consultative has been confirmed by the reports that our representatives have given us at an Area 8 meeting. The area representatives have been told to communicate only with specified personnel who are part time, this makes things difficult; in addition a document was issued entitled ‘The Way Forward’ in which there was a suggestion that the Area 8 was to be curtailed, by only allowing one representative from each association to be present. This suggestion was rejected by your representatives.

Before the inception of Area 8 RMSA met with the Plymouth and Filton Retired Employees, and established a constitution for meetings to discuss pension problems in our area. Now we have Marconi and the Royal Ordinance in the pension scheme, we have invited them to the Area 8 meeting, and their contribution has been useful, but together with other arrangements being Proposed, it does not auger well for future consultations, we will have to wait to see what transpires. The committee will keep an eye on the progress and keep you informed.

On a more enjoyable note, the day out to Lynmouth was as reported in the newsletter. A very pleasant day, the sun shone and all went well, including the two stowaways.

We are looking forward to the Short Break to Llandudno in October. The numbers are not great but enough to proceed; we do not expect to have stowaways after the coffee stop on this trip. The Christmas Lunch is the next item on the agenda; details are included in this newsletter. It is a good occasion both as a lunch and an opportunity to meet and talk to colleagues,. We hope to have Iain Gray as our guest again, although he has been very busy with the 380 & the 350 aircraft and as yet been unable to meet and talk with your committee as he did last year, we still hope this can be arranged before the end of the year.

The RMSA was well represented by the Committee and Members at John Dickens funeral at Down Ampney church, he was well known by Aircraft members, it was a sad loss.

The committee hope to see as many of you as possible at the Christmas Lunch, although it is a long way off. If you cannot make it, may we wish you a happy Christmas and a pleasant and enjoyable New Year.
