Annual Lunch 2005Here I am at home after having enjoyed our annual lunch held at B.A.W.A., where a host of old friends and colleagues met, talked and enjoyed each others’ company before sitting down to a most enjoyable Christmas lunch. Members began to gather even before 12:00 and very quickly groups of people were involved in conversations all over the room. These discussions were not confined to former colleagues alone; their ladies also joined in; greeting friends they had not seen perhaps for twelve months. Our chairman, Frank Webb finally called the assembly to order and requested all to take their place at table. Apologies were announced for a small number who regretted being unable to attend and a welcome was offered to our guests. |

The feast began with Grace given by Mrs Dorothea Bartlett. The B.A.W.A. staff as usual performed at their best and the lunches, which had been selected were served both rapidly and smoothly. All praise and thanks are due to B.A.W.A. for this excellent service. At the conclusion of luncheon, Frank Webb addressed the assembly briefly and then asked our guest Dr Iain Gray bring us up to date with developments at Filton Dr Gray thanked the association for its invitation and went on to say how much he had enjoyed his lunch and meeting so many old friends. He then brought us up to date on the current situation with regard to Airbus at Filton and gave an indication as to how well the company were doing and what developments were taking place. He went on to say that current success was due in part to the work which had been done in the past by previous generations (us included) for which he thanked all. The microphone was then passed to our Social Secretary who gave a brief resume on the year’s events and advised that a meeting of interested parties would take place immediately after lunch to discuss the events for 2006. Frank then thanked all for their attendance and offered seasonal greetings to all. Conversations re-started and members and guests dispersed gradually. Bill Brand
