 HUMOUR

GOING DOWN

Three monkeys sat in a coconut tree

Discussing things as they used to be.

Said one to the others “Now listen will you...

there’s a certain rumour that cannot be true,

it’s that man descended from our noble race.

The very idea’s a shocking disgrace.

No monkey ever deserted his wife,

Or starved her babies,

or ruined her life

And you never heard of a monkey mother

Who left her children with someone other

Or passed them on from one to another

So they scarcely knew who was their mother.

There’s another thing that monkeys don’t do.

Go out at night and get in a stew...

or use a gun, a club or knife

to take some other poor monkeys life.

That man descended

we make no fuss.

But Brother, he didn’t descend from us!
