CHAIRMAN’S REPORTI am writing this at the end of July, just when the very hot spell appears to have ended. Perhaps for a while or maybe for good, I personally hope we have some more good spells of weather before our annual short break in October. On the subject of hot weather those of you who came on the trip to Exmouth and experienced a very hot and uncomfortable coach may like to know that the matter was taken up with Rover and we received a reply from them saying how sorry they were that the air conditioning did not operate correctly. They sent the coach to their air conditioning firm who discovered a fault in a printed circuit board (surprise surprise) it was corrected and the system now works well. I very much doubt if we will need it in October but we were pleased that Rover attended to the problem and apologised to all our members affected. |

The outing itself was as usual first class, the boat trip on such a hot day was very welcome, and the scenery was good, It was a return to my sailing days at Starcross which we enjoyed very much, to watch the dog chasing (not catching) seagulls on the sand bank was great, he ran himself to a standstill. The response to the committee’s request for some “younger members” to come forward to help plan for the future of the R M S A was met with a totally zero reply. Now we are really getting serious about this problem. A friend of mine whose son was chairman of a local athletic club had exactly the same problem so after many pleas with no response he announced that the club was being wound up and would cease to operate. This did produce a response and the essential offices were filled. We do not want to resort to such a measure but unless some “younger members” come forward soon we will have to consider our position before the next A G M in March 2007 The R M S A was founded in 1980 but your committee was so busy organising events and trying to get some support from “younger members” that we missed the 25 year anniversary We would like to do something to mark the occasion, nothing very formal but something that all members can enjoy; i.e. a buffet lunch or an evening get together, perhaps a morning coffee somewhere. We would like to hear from you with your suggestions as soon as possible, all will be considered and our response will be in the next newsletter (February 2007) get in touch with any committee member. We do not want another year to go by, with no recognition of 26 years friendship. In response to the Newsletter Editor’s plea for some new items; Esme and I have written an account of our very successful holiday around South America. Perhaps the account was a little long but it was a good holiday and deserved recalling, we have left it to Bill to serialise as he thinks fit, hope you will not be bored! On a more enjoyable note, the day out to Lynmouth was as reported in the newsletter. A very pleasant day, the sun shone and all went well, including the two stowaways. We are looking forward to the Short Break to Llandudno in October. The numbers are not great but enough to proceed; we do not expect to have stowaways after the coffee stop on this trip. The Christmas Lunch is the next item on the agenda; details are included in this newsletter. It is a good occasion both as a lunch and an opportunity to meet and talk to colleagues,. We hope to have Iain Gray as our guest again, although he has been very busy with the 380 & the 350 aircraft and as yet been unable to meet and talk with your committee as he did last year, we still hope this can be arranged before the end of the year. The RMSA was well represented by the Committee and Members at John Dickens funeral at Down Ampney church, he was well known by Aircraft members, it was a sad loss. The committee hope to see as many of you as possible at the Christmas Lunch, although it is a long way off. If you cannot make it, may we wish you a happy Christmas and a pleasant and enjoyable New Year. Frank Webb
