Pensioner Representation.
All pensioners of the company are able to vote
for representatives to the Joint Pensioners
Committee (JPC). These elected representatives
meet with the Pension Scheme management at Farnborough
at quarterly JPC meetings. Some of the representatives
also sit on sub-committees which address various
specific issues or projects.
For pensioners of the former British Aerospace
and its predecessor companies (the 'Main Scheme'), the country is divided
into eight areas, each of which elects two representatives
to the JPC. There is a similar arrangement
for pensioners of Royal Ordnance (RO) and the former
GEC-Marconi (the '2000' scheme) who are now BAE Systems pensioners -
they elect their own representatives to the JPC, based on their
own area groupings.
About a month before each JPC meeting, the JPC
reps
from Area 8 (Main Scheme) and from the RO and 2000 schemes whose constituencies include the South West and South Wales, meet with representatives of the pensioner
associations in the area. This is the Area
8 committee meeting, and provides a forum in which
the local groups can, via their representatives,
discuss local issues and also the issues that the
JPC is addressing.
Our elected JPC representatives for Area 8 Main Scheme are David Moakes and Peter Aze. For the 2000 Scheme our representatives are Jim Pearce and John Porter, and for the Royal Ordnance Scheme our representative is Frank Spencer.
As well as discussing pension scheme matters
with the scheme management at Farnborough, the JPC
reps are also able to raise specific issues
on behalf of individual pensioners. Although
there are well- publicised telephone helplines that
should always be tried first, sometimes problems
require the perspective of a fellow pensioner.
The Area 8 committee members of your local association should be the second port of call for problems (the first being the telephone helplines).
If you can't get in touch with your local association Area 8 committee
member, the JPC representatives can be contacted by the telephone numbers
given on our printed newsletter, or via e-mail at:
