Chair 2026-28
Sharon Scott
I am an orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in pelvic & acetabular injuries and polytrauma. Having spent 16 years in Liverpool, I have recently moved to Salford Royal in Manchester. I was involved in the development of the Major Trauma Network and Centre in Cheshire & Merseyside and as Deputy Medical Director for Neurosciences and Major Trauma in Salford, continue to provide oversight of Major Trauma Services. As a member of the BOA Trauma Committee, I am involved in projects aimed to improve the care provided to orthopaedic trauma patients. I enjoy teaching and am a member of the AO faculty and regularly teach on the ‘Fun Ortho’ series. Progressing from deputy, I will be holding the Chair of BAPAS from June 2026.

Chris Jordan
I’m currently a consultant at University Hospital Southampton. With an interest in pelvic and acetabular reconstruction, trauma, hip and revision hip Arthroplasty. I qualified from St George's Hospital Medical School after completing a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol.
My postgraduate surgical training was on the Wessex rotation on the UK's south coast. This was followed by a sub-specialist fellowship in Pelvic and Acetabular reconstruction and major trauma at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia. Before returning to a Hip Arthroplasty fellowship at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
I was appointed by Imperial College Healthcare Trust as a consultant specialising in Pelvic and Acetabular reconstruction, Trauma & Primary and Revision Hip Arthroplasty in 2020 where I went on to become Head of Service for T&O. I live to my current role in Southampton in 2025.
I’m currently lucky enough to be one of the match day orthopaedic surgeons to the RFU & England Rugby at Twickenham. I enjoy living by the South Downs in Hampshire with my wife and our dog Wellie, where we make the most of the beautiful countryside and coastline on our doorstep

Policy Lead
James Bassett
I have been a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in James Cook Hospital since 2023 in the Northeast of England. I initially trained in Birmingham before moving to Bristol for speciality training. I completed fellowships in Pelvic and Acetabular Fracture surgery in Adelaide as well as Arthroplasty fellowship in Bristol.
I have been involved in BAPAS since it became a formal society in 2024 and have worked as Policy lead to drive development of consensus statements with a wider team of Pelvic and Acetabular surgeons from across the UK. Apart from work I am a keen golfer attempting to maintain a scratch handicap alongside work.

Nik Kanakaris
Reasearch Lead
Nikolaos (Nik) Kanakaris, MD, PhD, has been working as a consultant pelvic & acetabular reconstruction surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2008. He has been appointed as the Clinical Lead for LEEDS Major Trauma Centre since its launch in 2013. He holds the title of Hon. Ass. Professor at the Academic Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics of the University of Leeds and is chairing the Major Incident Steering Group for LTHT. He works also as the Research Lead of BAPAS, the secretary of ESTROT, the Chair of the Trauma Education Group of the EFORT, and is the Trauma Section Editor for the AO Foundation.
He was born and studied in Athens, Greece. He received his specialist/fellowship training in Greece, the USA (Yale-New Haven Hospital) and the UK (Leeds Teaching Hospitals).
He is an active member of the BOA, OTA, OTS, BAPAS, EFORT, AO Foundation, ZBI, ESTROT, ESPA, SEPAS and ISOPS. He has communicated the results of his clinical and research work in more than 170 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 80 chapters of scientific textbooks, which have received over 11,000 citations, with an h-index of 59. He has received 32 awards/prizes for his scientific and clinical work. He is married with three teenage children and enjoys his free time with his family, as well as offshore sailing and basketball.
